Service improvement highlighted

Deep cleaning issues, benchmarking, health and safety, the implications of an ageing workforce, staff development, environmental issues, and “working relationships” will be among the wide-ranging topics highlighted at the Healthcare Facilities Consortium’s 2008 Annual Conference in Oxford next month.

Being held from 18-19 September at the Kassam Stadium (pictured), home to Oxford United Football Club, the conference, themed “Flourishing FM – Enhancing Estates & Facilities Information”, will focus on “the key drivers towards service improvement”.

The Consortium says that not only are new guidance and minimum standards from the Department of Health and chief nursing officers ensuring healthcare FM is “flourishing”, but that buildings are now “more suited to purpose”, and “maintenance and cleaning standards are continuing to rise”.

Speakers will include Dr Liz Jones, head of Patient Environment, Department of Health, speaking on deep cleaning issues, and Stephen Wells, director of estates and facilities, Mayday Healthcare NHS Trust, addressing cost improvement plans. Other topics examined will include the soon-to-bepublished ISO, “Whole Life Value”, NHS memberships, benchmarking, and stress management.

The conference will be staged alongside an exhibition featuring technical demonstrations.
