Wardray Premise is to play an important part in the installation of the UK’s first CyberKnife cancer treatment machine, a device that can reportedly treat tumours more accurately by targeting them from all around the body.
Working in conjunction with CT cancer mapping technology, the device calculates how much radiotherapy a tumour needs to destroy all cancer cells without harming surrounding tissue. By targeting the tumour from many different angles, the correct dose can be delivered without damaging the spinal chord.
Wardray Premise is to supply and install the lead shielding for the project, undertaking calculations, design, build, test and final commission. The 6 m x 6 m enclosure requires a range of shielding thicknesses and will need approximately 300 tonnes of shielding for the walls and ceiling and a 28 tonne sliding pneumatic door.
