Line-type detector ‘offers effective fire protection in harsh environments’

Fire safety and fire detection specialist, Patol, says that ‘in certain environments conventional fire detection systems’ physical limitations mean they do not offer the required protection’, and in such settings its SecuriSens ADW 535 line-type heat detector ‘becomes a potential option’.

Patol said: “This intelligent detector is designed specifically to cope with the most difficult conditions – those typically problematic for other forms of detection. This includes fully automatic monitoring of large open areas, environments with extreme humidity and high temperatures, applications where resistance to corrosive gases is essential, or where differentiation between false alarms and actual fire incidents is a real focus.

Steve Wilder, a senior account manager at Patol, said: “A fire risk assessment should be a prerequisite for any site. In certain situations this reveals that conventional detection is unsuitable due to the specifics of the environment, and the challenges it presents in terms of effective fire detection. With the ADW 535, many of the factors common in such challenging circumstances can be addressed, particularly given the ease with which the settings can be configured to adapt to specific environmental conditions.”

The ‘diverse setting options’ can be accessed directly through the detector unit, or via the ADW Config tool. The detector features Dynamic Heat Watch (DHW) technology, which Patol says ‘reduces the potential for false alarms, as a brief temperature increase caused by the ambient conditions does not result in an alarm condition’. The ADW 535 is said to ‘combine a proven functional principle with the latest developments in sensor and processor technology’. A sensing tube filled with normal air is installed in the area to be monitored, with a fully electronic pressure sensor permanently recording the pressure. The processing electronics constantly monitor the tube and compare the results with the alarm criteria.

In addition to the standard version, the detector is available in a heavy duty, ATEX-approved model. Both options are approved to the EN54-22 standard. The copper, stainless steel, or Teflon sensing tubes ensure it can withstand severe ambient conditions and high temperatures.

Applications are wide-ranging, and include tunnels, car parks, food industry and chemical industry sites, ‘along with many high temperature applications’.
