Fume cupboard’s ‘scientific approach’

The new Ecoline Fume Cupboard from S+B UK has been developed in response to the new European test protocol, BS 14175, and to address the need to reduce energy consumption.

The company says the new unified protocol, which took Europe’s leading designers, consultants and manufacturers over a decade to develop, presents fume cupboards with more diverse challenges “in a way that is more representative of a greater cross-section of operational activities”.

The Ecoline Fume Cupboard design is based on internal operational geometry arrived at through application of scientifically-based mathematics relating to the movement of air. The resulting internal chamber creates a bi-stable vortex which S+B claims is “much more stable” than the mono-stable vortex found in conventional fume cupboards, and provides improved containment capability.

Alongside affording improved operator protection, S+B says the Ecoline has been shown, through independent testing, to perform at least as well, and in many cases to a higher standard, than conventional products, while using 40% less energy.
