Early utility detection service

A leading utility detection company and one of surveying’s most established firms have joined forces to offer healthcare estate and facility managers a comprehensive selection of specialist services.

SUMO Services and Team Surveys say contractors damaging buried utility services on healthcare premises will have far more serious consequences than on most construction sites. Recent changes to the Construction Design Management Regulations also place further responsibility on construction clients to provide information on buried utility services before construction starts.

Via an early utility survey, the resulting information can be used at design stage to indicate costly service diversions and prevent unexpected contract delays. SUMO Services offers utility detection and mapping for all types of underground services. Its Mark Out service clearly identifies the depth, direction and utility type using colour-coded biodegradable paint on the ground’s surface. Electric cables, fibre optic ducts, clay pipes, concrete sewers, steel pipes and medical gases can all be detected.

Team Surveys’ technology includes dual frequency GPS and “Robotic Total Stations”, with its services encompassing topographical, GPS and measured building surveys. Using reflectorless technology, highly accurate surveys can be undertaken on anything from single-storey structures to large industrial buildings.
