Northcroft Medal winner announced

An article examining the guidance set out on pathology laboratory gas systems in a new Department of Health healthcare technical memorandum, HTM08-06, won MGPS services consultant and the HTM’s main author, Geoff Dillow, IHEEM’s 2007 Northcroft Silver Medal.

The medal was due to be presented to Geoff Dillow, for his Health Estate Journal article, “Path lab gas system guidance reviewed” (HEJ, October 2007), by IHEEM president Rob Smith at this year’s Healthcare Estates Conference in Harrogate. However, due to the winner being unable to attend, it was decided to instead give him his award at the IHEEM AGM next May.

Each year the Northcroft Silver Medal is awarded to the IHEEM member/s felt to have written the Health Estate Journal article considered to have contributed most to the advancement of hospital engineering. The medal, and the winning criteria, were established by Lord Lionel Northcroft, IHEEM president between 1967-1969, during the Institute’s most formative years. The award is made annually, and all IHEEM members are encouraged to submit potentially awardwinning articles for publication in HEJ.
