IHEEM is staging three seminars on decontamination on 12 November at London South Bank University, 20 November at the University of Birmingham, and on 3 December at St James’s Hospital, Leeds.
The Department of Health’s Health Technical Memoranda (HTMs) play a key role in providing assurance that the latest guidance is being adhered to. As part of the growing suite of HTM guidance on decontamination, these IHEEM seminars will introduce a new proposed HTM: HTM01-01 part B, “Equipment and NICE Guidance Implementation”, and to explore what the guidance means for decontamination services. The topic of endoscopy will also be discussed.
Under the new HTM, the previous role of Authorised Person (Sterilisation) AP (S) is changing to that of Authorising Engineer (Decontamination) AE (D), to be consistent with titles used in other critical service areas. This seminar will cover the background to this change, and define the role and responsibilities of the AE (D) in healthcare organisations. IHEEM believes the seminar is “an absolute must” for all staff working in the field of decontamination services whether working in, or providing services to, healthcare organisations.
It will include the following presentations and speakers:
- Welcome and Introduction to HTM01-01B – Peter Hooper, decontamination consultant.
- Implementation of NICE guidance – Don Jeffries, Professor of Virology, University of London.
- Endoscopy – David Hurrell, Healthcare Science.
- Department of Health policy advice – Nigel Tomlinson, Department of Health.
- The Role of the AE (D) – Eddie McLaughlin, Health Facilities Scotland. Booking is now available online.
