York hospital gets UK’s first Ysio wi-D

York Hospital has begun examining patients with the UK’s first Ysio wi-D digital radiography X-ray system from Siemens Healthcare.

The general X-ray system is reportedly unique in offering a wireless portable detector that can be used in bucky, on the table and stand, or placed underneath, or next to, the patient. The new system is installed in the emergency X-ray department for front line trauma and orthopaedic examinations.

The 35 cm x 43 cm wireless portable detector is helping radiographers easily acquire images from traditionally awkward situations, such as trolley trauma, lateral spinal work, standing feet and ankles, and examinations using the erect bucky. It is positionable under the patient, on trolleys, or behind wheelchairs. Image previews are delivered in five seconds, while radiographers need not leave the room to view images.

Dose is reduced due to the comprehensive coverage, while a “DiamondView” feature optimises image quality via intelligent noise reduction and edge enhancement. A simple user workstation enables the Ysio wi-D to be moved into over 1,000 different positions.
