Critical cooling specialist’s UK launch of propane heat pump chillers

Airedale by Modine has added to its range the MultiChill Propane (pictured) – a modular design reversible air source heat pump that it says operates using ‘highly sustainable’ natural refrigerant, R290.

The company describes the MultiChill range of heat pump chillers as ‘a class-leading, sustainable cooling and heating solution available to UK customers’.  MultiChill Propane is available in seven unit sizes, with a high-efficiency cooling capacity of 35-73 kW, and a heating capacity of 40-86 kW. It is optimised for natural refrigerant R290 (GWP 3), delivering a SEER up to 5.36, EER 2.86, and SCOP W55 3.63.

Delivering hot water at temperatures of up to 75°C, and with the ability to manage double setpoints in heating and cooling operation, MultiChill Propane is suitable for comfort, industrial, and domestic hot water applications. It has three sound configurations for noise-sensitive applications, ‘offering both application flexibility and energy saving capabilities’.

The units incorporate leak detectors, and have a double division between the control section and refrigerant circuit compartment. An air purge system to release refrigerant allows for ventilation and refrigerant extraction. In common UK use, propane is classified as a Class A3 substance in line with British Standard BS EN 378-1, with low toxicity.

Developed with modularity in mind, the system can be configured with multiple units ‘to provide reliability and flexibility without compromising performance’. Up to 16 can be connected in a local network to deliver a total capacity of 1168 kW cooling and 1376 kW heating.
