Obituary Ron Eunson

A large congregation of family and friends attended a recent memorial service for Ron Eunson at Morningside Baptist Church, Edinburgh. Ron Eunson had been a member of IHEEM since 1983, and a Registered Authorised Person (Sterilisers) since 1994.

He died at the Marie Curie Hospice in Edinburgh on 9 February, having reached his 56th birthday the previous day. Born and brought up in Orkney, Ron Eunson moved to Edinburgh to study electrical and electronic engineering at Heriot Watt University. He worked at the Medical Physics Department at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, joined the Common Services Agency for the Scottish Health Service in 1978, and had worked for various divisions of the same organisation (now NHS National Services Scotland ) ever since. He started as a Test Person on Sterilisers, registered as an Authorised Person (Sterilisers) on the role’s creation in 1994, and was the service manager for the AP(S) service at NSS. He achieved Chartered Engineer status through the IEE. Due to the nature of the AP(S) role, Ron Eunson was well-known throughout NHS Scotland to those working with sterilisers and washerdisinfectors. He was involved in producing guidance documents for Scotland such as SHTM 2010, 2030, and SHPN 13. He will be greatly missed by his fellow AP(S) (or AE (D) as they are now known) colleagues and friends throughout the UK. Ron Eunson was a modest, unassuming man of integrity and fairness, whose behaviour towards others set a fine example, and who was always ready to help and encourage. Always good company, he was highly regarded by all who knew him. He leaves behind his wife Sheila, two sons, and two daughters.
