Lightening the stress

The installation of Philips’ Ambiscene lighting within a “pioneering” £12.5 m Treatment Centre at Leighton Hospital, mid-Cheshire has helped create a calm, relaxing atmosphere designed to put patients at ease.

While acknowledging that even walking into a hospital can be daunting for some, Philips emphasises this does not apply at the centre, with light, airy spacious design, and the Ambiscene lighting, creating a “colourful, dynamic, fun space”. Colour-changing LED cove lighting positioned around the ceiling perimeter washes the walls with light, while complementary recessed Savio luminaires provide general ambient lighting. The “mood” can be changed from a touch pad simply by altering the light – in colour, contrast, tones of white light, direction, time and intensity. The centre was one of the first of a new generation of UK NHS treatment centres offering everything from ENT procedures to laparoscopic knee surgery.
