Claiming that, until now, it has only been possible to effectively disinfect water softening equipment during normal servicing,
Wychwood now offers an alternative, with its Sterisoft water softeners, which produce chlorine automatically from the salt during the regeneration process to disinfect the resin and the “internals” of the plant. This “minimises the potential for downstream problems caused by bacteria and biofilm” in calorifiers, hot water systems and showers. Disinfection frequency is adjustable, and set by the company’s engineers during commissioning. Wychwood says: “The Sterisoft softeners will be of particular benefit to hospitals and major commercial buildings with extensive systems. The plant can enhance existing Legionella control measures and reduce disinfection costs.” The process does not introduce any chlorine into the treated water, and can be verified and recorded during servicing.
