PKL Foodservice has supplied a complete kitchen and restaurant facility to North Middlesex University Hospital (NMUH) to provide temporary catering during an £80 m PFI re-build.
The courtyard facility provides a kitchen and dining facility serving over 5,000 staff, visitors and patients a week – with separate food preparation areas to produce around 250,000 meals annually for wards. Each section was pre-fabricated at PKL’s production facility and delivered to site in modules for assembly in situ. Installed in just six weeks, the facility is expected to be in use for 39 months. PKL worked closely with catering provider Medirest and main contractor Bouygues UK to ensure the temporary structure met all the client’s requirements. Dining facilities include a main restaurant with hot and cold serveries and a Deli Marche coffee shop. The retail unit can seat over 100. These areas are served by a full open plan production kitchen with separate cold storage, dry storage and potwash areas. There are also separate food preparation areas for the staff restaurant and for food for hospital wards. Ancillary facilities include customer toilets, staff changing and showering facilities, and offices.
