Latest figures from the National Patient Safety Agency (NPSA)’s annual PEAT assessments show the environment of inpatient units has improved and high standards of food, and privacy and dignity, have been maintained across the NHS over the past year.
The inspection teams check English NHS hospitals and units with over 10 inpatient beds on three main categories – “Environment”, “Food”, and “Privacy and Dignity”. Last month’s findings show 84% of the 1,265 sites scored either “excellent” or “good” PEAT ratings for their environment, relating to standards of cleanliness, decoration, linen, furniture and state of repair. Ninety-four per cent achieved “excellent” or “good” for privacy and dignity, and 95% “excellent” or “good” for quality, choice, and availability of patient food. The figures for both the latter two categories remain unchanged from last year.
