Asbestos in plain English

Asbestos management firm Clifford Devlin has published “a simple A5 guide” to managing asbestos in the workplace, which outlines who is responsible for managing the substance in non-domestic premises and what those responsibilities are.

While illegal to use asbestoscontaining materials (ACMs) in construction or refurbishment since 1999, it was used in Great Britain from the 1950s to the mid-1980s, and much of it is still in place. Health & Safety Executive (HSE) data suggests asbestos is the greatest single cause of UK work-related deaths, accounting for over 3,000 fatalities annually. Clifford Devlin’s publication describes where it is commonly found and how to identify it, explains the legal framework, and contains a step-by-step guide to dealing with it.
