Interserve Project Services has awarded a £2.8 million contract, under Welsh Health Estates’ Designed for Life: Building for Wales framework programme, to Yorkon, to build and fit out off-site a three-storey outpatient decant facility for the University Hospital of Llandough in Cardiff.
The off-site approach will reduce construction to 31 weeks, and minimise disruption to patient care and adjacent ward buildings. The 2,000 m2 building will accommodate consulting and examination rooms, a reception and waiting area on both ground and first floors, and offices for consultants, outpatient co-ordinators, and nursing staff, on the second floor. Due for completion by the year-end, the building will comprise 45 steel-framed modules manufactured in York and craned into position in a single week. The new decant facilities will enable Interserve to begin building a £50 m mental health assessment unit, which will replace an “outdated” Edwardian building, and provide rapid access to care and support for older patients.
