Surgical light ‘step change’

Brandon Medical claims to be the world’s first company to launch surgical lights using what it dubs “the new innovative HD-LED technology”.

Quasar HD-LED reportedly produces “the biggest, fattest, most powerful beam of any surgical light”. The high light intensity is spread evenly across a 400 mm illuminated field to create a “stunningly uniform” working area. Brandon explained: “While most operating lights use simple reflectors to collect light and throw it forward onto the patient, Quasar creates an optical image of the perfect lighting field and then projects it like a movie projector, allowing precise definition of the lighting field then controllable “with near perfection” by a zoom lens system. When a surgeon changes the field size, it is thus the image size that is changed, and not the image.” With HD-LED technology, Brandon says colours are “visibly more vibrant and vivid”, enabling surgeons to “identify the smallest differences in colour to give the most accurate tissue representation”.
