With the revision of British Standard BS 8300:2009, “Design of buildings and their approaches to meet the needs of disabled people”, hospitals and health centres are recommended to provide specialist “Changing Places”
(a campaign for appropriately-designed toilet and bathrooms for those with profound and multiple learning disabilities and other “serious impairments”) facilities that meet the needs of profoundly disabled users requiring assistant or carer help.
Pressalit Care offers a free design and advisory service, and a full range of specialist assistive bathroom equipment, to architects/facilities managers looking to create facilities in line with the new British Standard. Design of a Changing Places bathroom, as outlined in the new British Standard, recommends items such as a “large power assisted heightadjustable washbasins” and a “heightadjustable showering/changing bench”. The Pressalit Care range includes ergonomic washbasins and nursing benches power-adjustable for height, shower chairs, and hinged arm supports. When used with the Pressalit Care track system, these products offer maximum user flexibility, and reduce the need for further adaptation/ reconfiguration.
