IHEEM’s Membership Committee has extensive duties and responsibilities. The committee:
· Reviews membership assessment criteria as necessary and advise the Institute’s Council on all matters regarding membership of IHEEM.
· Receives and review all new applications and upgrades for membership.
· Promotes Engineering Council registration to members.
· Provides guidance to members on all aspects of membership and registration with the Engineering Council UK, as well as encouraging upgrades and transfers to appropriate grades of membership.
· Develops and maintain professional review panels within each branch area and provide training for panel members.
· Gives advice to members on Professional Development and undertake monitoring on a sample basis.
The strong link with the Department of Health, Engineering Council and other Professional Institutes ensures that the committee is kept up to date on all aspects of membership, registration and healthcare issues. This is vital for the future development of IHEEM.
The Committee is comprised of a range of members who contribute a vast amount of knowledge and experience to all membership issues, ensuring that IHEEM delivers the best to each and every member.
Nigel Keery CEng FIHEEM is chairman of the Membership Committee, is a Council member, is a Northern Ireland Branch member, and is a Professional Review interviewer.
Other members of the Membership Committee are David Svenson CEng MIHEEM, Professional Review interviewer; Phil Wade EngTech MIHEEM, Council member; David Mason IEng MIHEEM, Engineering Council Liaison Officer; Alan Mosedale IEng FIHEEM, Council member, chairman of the Technical Committee, East Midlands Branch member, Engineering Council UK representative for Group B Institutes, and Professional Review interviewer; Greg Markham CEng FIHEEM, Professional Review interviewer; Steven Palmer IEng FIHEEM, Technical Committee member, North East Branch committee member, Professional Review interviewer; Richard Boyce CEng CIHEEM, Council member, chairman of the Executive Committee, Education Committee member, Southern Branch member, and Professional Review interviewer; and David Wicks IEng FIHEEM, Council member, chairman of the Journal Committee, and Professional Review interviewer.
The past two years have been extremely busy for the Membership Committee. As can be seen from the graph, the committe has reviewed and processed more that 300 membership application forms. With one meeting remaining this year, it is anticipated that this year’s figure will be higher than that of last year. This success has only been achieved by “de-coupling” from the Engineering Council UK and the introduction of the “Fast Track” procedure. The flow diagram explains the routes to registration. It has been produced to allow applicants and members alike to selfassess where they sit within IHEEM’s membership structure. It allows membership grades to be awarded throughout the year, not just at Committee meetings. The procedure is robust and very thorough and yet it is a simple, yet valuable tool for the committee and ensures that all members are reviewed and processed to the same standard.
Future agenda items include the organising a series of Interview Panel Training Workshops, Mentoring Workshops and Registration Workshops.
