A new mental health care home in Northampton, designed by David Grindley Architects for Gold Care Homes, has been shortlisted for two national design awards.
Woodside Lodge is a privately-financed 20-bedroom care home catering for young people requiring 24-hour care, built using the latest in sustainable solid timber construction technology, which enabled the architect and main contractor Deejak to deliver the project on programme and budget. Project architect Robert Grindley said: “The timber used is an Austrian spruce, pre-cut into large panels to our drawings, which saved considerable time on-site.” The home has been shortlisted for both the “Building for Health” Award at the Builder & Engineer Awards 2009 and for the Wood Awards 2009, the latter administered by City of London livery company the Carpenters’ Company. Both awards events take place this month.
