Swanke Hayden Connell Architects (SHCA) has designed a new entrance pavilion at Mansfield Community Hospital in Nottinghamshire. The building forms part of a wider site redevelopment planned to streamline clinical functions and improve the patient experience.
Additions include a specialist rehabilitation centre, physical therapy department, and outpatient services centre. As lead architectural consultant, SHCA’s involvement has included masterplanning, architecture, clinical planning and interior design. The new main entrance building and adjacent exterior entrance courtyard provide an exciting new public arrival point. Incorporated are a café, patient information centre, and administration facilities. The strikingly modern structure is a partially glazed rectangular block cantilevered over the ground floor. The interior is light and airy and opens to a full-height atrium space.
