IHEEM members will have received a CPD Summary Tracking Sheet with their invoices at the beginning of the year (those who did not or who require another should visit the Institute’s website (www.iheem.org.uk) from which a copy can be downloaded. It is now time to submit the CPD Summary Tracking Sheet.
As a professional institute, IHEEM encourages its members to keep a log of CPD hours undertaken. CPD is particularly useful for those aspiring to develop their career within healthcare and estate management, but what about those who are already at the forefront of the latest technology? Well, by definition these individuals can argue successfully that they are pushing forward the boundaries of knowledge and by doing so are developing themselves for the future. Indeed, it should be noted that attending meetings within their respective organisations also contributes to their CPD requirement.
Reading Health Estate Journal is one of the simplest ways of making a significant contribution to maintaining development.
Other ways of conducting CPD include:
· Undertaking further academic learning.
· Giving or receiving mentoring.
· Reading other professional journals.
· Further study within a structured environment (not necessarily healthcare).
· In-house training.
· Attending conferences arranged by other organisations (not necessarily healthcare).
· Giving or receiving presentations within a working or professional environment.
· Involvement with the community, schools, clubs etc.
· Attending IHEEM Recruitment Presentations.
Although the learning outcome of CPD is more important than the specific number of hours achieved, 25-30 hours of CPD per year based on the above is but a small requirement. Just reading all issues of HEJ contributes eight hours to the overall total.
Completed CPD Logs should be to Tammy Simmons at the Institute – the Logs will be forwarded to the Membership Committee for comments. Members will be informed of any comments made (members can receive a fast responses if they provide their email addresses.)
