DDA boost for evacuation chair

Evac+Chair International has experienced a 20% increase in sales of its award-winning stairway evacuation chair as a direct result of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA).

The company's managing director Barry Scholes said: "Judging by the sales of the Evac+Chair since the Act came into force, the DDA has certainly had a clear impact on employers which is encouraging." The Evac+Chair is popular as a simple, safe and effective solution that allows employers to comply with the DDA, which states they must provide an adequate means of escape for all. It enables a single user to evacuate a person with mobility difficulties using continuous rotating v-belts to provide a controlled descent down stairways without the need for lifting or altering the fabric of the building. The company has just added a further 7,500 sq ft manufacturing area to its premises at its Birmingham headquarters to accommodate its continuing success
