When installing cavity wall insulation at Southend University Hospital, Climate Energy Solutions was keen to ensure minimal disruption to patients and staff.
The specialist energy consultancy required a solution that would offer “fast, efficient installation, outstanding technical performance, and exceptional green credentials”. The insulation material specified for the nine-storey tower block also needed to be British Board of Agrement-certified for use in multi-storey projects and, as the building’s irregular shape meant erecting scaffolding would be costly and time-consuming, Climate Energy Solutions needed a material installable from the interior walls. The company approached Saint-Gobain Isover, which recommended Walltherm sustainable blown wool insulation. Walltherm has an up to 86% recycled content, offered considerable cost and energy savings, could be installed one floor at a time, and is designed to fit around existing internal features. Manufactured from non-combustible glass mineral wool, the granules are lightweight and resilient.
