The deal to build Selby’s new community hospital and civic centre development has now been signed, with work scheduled to begin this month.
NHS North Yorkshire and York Community and Mental Health Services and Selby District Council are jointly funding the development, which is due for completion in the summer of 2011, and is to be built by Leeds-based BAM Construction (HEJ – November 2009) The Selby Community Project will deliver the new community hospital and a District Council Civic Centre on land adjacent to the existing Selby War Memorial Hospital, with the scheme made possible via joint funding arrangements. Throughout the construction period services at both the existing hospital and District Council will be unaffected. Hospital facilities planned include 24 inpatient beds for intermediate care and rehabilitation; enhanced diagnostics including digital imaging and ultrasound; a minor injuries unit; antinatal and post-natal clinics; a minor surgical suite; enhanced outpatient services; adult, older people, and child and adolescent mental health services; community dentistry; chiropody, physiotherapy, occupational therapy; cognitive behavioural therapy, and palliative/end-of-life care.
