Specialist artwork and design consultancy Artinsite has created “a unique environment” for the waiting and scanning areas of the children’s nuclear imaging department at London’s St Thomas’ Hospital.
The waiting area houses an interactive screen with a simple, colourful interface through which children can access “age-appropriate” games and information about the scanning process, and watch a newly commissioned animation answering common concerns with the scanning process. The screen is integrated into a décor that incorporates images of the Thames skyline in tall panels. The sky concept also features in the scanning room, where the ceiling features a drawing of a dramatic blue sky below which an overhead screen plays a specially commissioned film, “Looking Up”, The project’s initial success has led to the use of similar artworks in other areas, including the hospital’s new High Dose Radiation clinic.
