Lighting helps to keep infants cool

Clinical staff at the Neonatal Unit at London’s Homerton Hospital, a “centre of excellence” for the care of premature and sick babies, and part of the London Perinatal Network, are using Brandon Medical’s Coolview HD-LED examination lights – selected both for their “excellent light quality and full spectrum colour rendition”, and because they do not emit infrared or UV light.

Brandon explained: “The light emitted is cold, which helps maintains a stable temperature for the babies’ environment.” The Homerton Hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit, first opened in 1987, is among north-east London’s leading baby care units. Following an £8 million investment, the unit, which provides high dependency and special care services, has increased cot numbers from 16 to 36.
