Alloa-based carbon management consultancy CADmeleon’s new “Carbon Estates” software, which has apparently already caught the attention of Scottish and Southern Energy, is an online portal that enables organisations “to see the business value in building refurbishment as a carbon reduction strategy”.
Bernard McKeown, CADmeleon MD (pictured), said: “Carbon Estates allows users to monitor energy use both on an individual building, and at an estates level. Buildings can be compared like-for-like using parameters such as age, construction type, usage, and floor size. The software also allows instant comparison between how the building should perform optimally, against how it is actually operating.” Use of individual parameters, such as lighting, heating, and building fabric modifications, reportedly allows users to instantly view changes in consumption across building portfolios before physical alterations have been applied, “ensuring costly mistakes are avoided”.
