After a budget with “few surprises”, the organisers of this year’s Healthcare Estates conference and exhibition point out that the challenge for estates and facilities personnel – to develop “lean” healthcare facilities that offer a better quality of service, are fit-for-purpose, efficient, and cost-effective – remains precisely the same. Being held at new venue Manchester Central, Healthcare Estates 2010 takes
place from 5-6 October, and will be opened by IHEEM’s new President Paul Kingsmore. The organisers said: “Whether in the public or private sector, based in England, or one of the devolved administrations, we all face a similar challenge going forward.” This year’s main conference theme is “Clean, Lean, Safe and Green” – a theme which the organisers promise will be reflected throughout the exhibition in the new products, services, and solutions on display from the “150 plus” exhibitors, as well as through the “50 plus” papers that will form this year’s IHEEM Annual Conference. The organisers add: “Attendance is a unique opportunity for all responsible for delivering clean, safe, secure, and efficient patient-centred environments to see the latest products and services, talk to colleagues and share experience, understand how others have approached and resolved similar issues, and ensure you have the information, knowledge, and choice, to achieve your targets and face the challenges ahead. “Healthcare Estates is your annual event, and a unique resource specifically designed to assist you. The investment of time and money you make in attending will pay dividends throughout the year ahead.” Since June’s publication of the IHEEM conference programme, additional papers and speakers have been confirmed as follows:
• Sue Frith, deputy head of the NHS Security Management Service, will discuss “Achieving safe and secure healthcare facilities”.
• Dr Wyn Hughes – associate director of Capital Developments, Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, will examine “Travel planning in action”.
• Dr Liz Jones, head of Patient Environment at the Department of Health, and AHCP president, will consider “Cleanliness in support of infection prevention and control”.
• Keith Hinchcliffe, trading manager, NHS Supply Chain, will cover “Sustainable procurement for food production”.
