Institute bids for IFHE Congress

IHEEM’s International Affairs Committee has put in a bid for the IFHE 2014 Congress, proposing that this 23rd such event be held in Manchester, writes IFHE representative Andy Wavell.

He explains: “Every two years IFHE holds a Congress in a different part of the world, hosted by one of its member organisations. The general secretary seeks expressions of interest for hosting the event, after which a formal invitation to tender is sent out. Following a suggestion that IHEEM bid for the 2014 Congress, the Executive discussed the implications, and agreed that a bid should be made. “The Institute’s International Affairs Committee then began formulating it.” As previous International Congresses have been held in London and Edinburgh, it was suggested that Cardiff be selected to take the event “to another country”. “However,” said Andy Wavell, “in the event Manchester was selected, as our own Annual Conference is moving to Manchester Central this year, and it made sense to keep the two events together. “The general secretary will advise all member countries of the bids received, and selection of the successful bid will then be made at the IFHE’s 21st Congress in Tokyo in November.”
