Dr Manju Patel, chair of IHEEM’s Business Development Committee, and acute sector planning lead at NHS Grampian, is one of four co-authors of a book recently published by Wiley-Blackwell that examines the part governance and knowledge management can play in improving the performance of PFI/PPP projects.
According to the synopsis, while there is growing worldwide demand for new transport, healthcare, education, energy, and water infrastructure, government resources are often insufficient to meet the needs of new projects, leading to an increase in private participation. However, the respective roles of both the public and private sectors are the subject of intense debate. “Governance and Knowledge Management for Public-Private Partnerships” (which is available online; for more information visit: www.interscience.wiley.com/onlinebooks – ISBN13: 978-1-4051-8855-5 for the hardback edition), shows how effective governance and knowledge management can improve the performance of PFI/PPP projects. The other co-authors are: Patricia Carrillo of Loughborough University; Chimay J. Anumba of Penn State University in the US, and Herbert Robinson of the London South Bank University.
