A healthcare facility claimed to be the UK’s first publicly-funded hospital to feature single bedrooms with en suite facilities throughout is on track to complete by mid-September, the contractor has confirmed.
BAM Construction says the Ysbyty Aneurin Bevan (Aneurin Bevan General Hospital), pictured, is nearing completion, with only final finishes, cleaning, and commissioning, remaining to complete. The hospital (HEJ – January 2009), which will have 96 bedrooms, 11 adult mental health beds and day services, therapies, a large outpatient facility, X-ray, urgent care, and a birthing suite, will be the first project within a regeneration programme on the former Ebbw Vale steelworks site. It is also one of the first projects under the Welsh Health Estates “Designed for Life” programme. The external works are well advanced, with much of the landscape planting done, and it is expected that patients will start using the facility in the autumn, with inpatient and therapy services being transferred from local hospitals, and outpatients coming from a district general hospital over 10 miles away. Outside healthcare, BAM International was the contractor behind the Soccer City Johannesburg stadium which staged the World Cup Final on July 11.
