Birmingham Children’s Hospital staff selected a new Modula S-TP water purification system from ELGA Process Water for the hospital’s new £2.7 million Children’s Kidney Unit (HEJ – May 2010).
The system supplies a constant 350- 1,750 litres / hour flow of ultra-pure water from lower grade feedwater. Its twin-pass RO stages can operate independently in emergency to maintain patient treatment, while its higher recovery rates and membrane lifespan reportedly make it “efficient, cost-effective, and energy-saving”. Jane Cotterill, renal services manager, explained: “The old renal unit’s water plant was continually breaking down, there was limited backup, and we were lucky to find spare parts because of its age. We also had to regularly close the unit for half a day to clean and disinfect the ring main.”
