To create a welcoming, comfortable environment for visitors to Liverpool’s Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Construction Specialties (C/S) has delivered a bespoke interior wall design using its Acrovyn textured sheeting.
In conjunction with project architect Mersey Design Group, C/S specifically designed the walls of the children’s ward to give a sense of being outdoors. Providing impact protection to vulnerable zones, 2 mm Acrovyn textured wall sheeting was installed by Conspec Contracts. “Acrovyn was specified for its excellent impact resistance,” said John Williams, capital projects manager, estates department. “The finished building fabric will reduce lifecycle costs and help us maintain a functional building for many years.” The Acrovyn textured sheet was carefully pre-cut into shapes and applied to create “a rainbow of colours” to the lower part of the walls in the main entrance and lift areas in Spring Green, Anise, Lilac, Ocean Blue, and Harvest Gold. In the Burns Unit, Hunter Green, Burgundy, Harvest Gold, Yale Blue, Salmon, and Pacific Blue Acrovyn colours were installed to mid-wall height to match the flooring design, while Spring Green sheeting, cut into the shape of hills, features in the MRI facility. In line with Approved Document M, Acrovyn plates, shaped Acrovyn kick/push plates, and Acrovyn corner guards SM20 and SM135°, were also applied in the reception area, Burns Unit, and corridors.
