A 10,000 m2 boulevard that will link each part of the hospital complex, providing direct, easy access to all the site’s facilities, has been officially unveiled two weeks ahead of schedule as the final stage of the £500 million Central Manchester University Hospitals complex.
Catalyst Healthcare (Manchester), the PFI consortium managing the hospital complex’s build and operation, says the boulevard’s opening marks the culmination of a five-year build period that has transformed Manchester’s health services and rejuvenated the local community. Now the four hospitals will have an additional 71 disabled parking spaces, dedicated drop-off points, and outdoor seating areas for patients, visitors, and staff. Roger Potts, general manager, Catalyst Healthcare (Manchester), (pictured, left, with Peter Mount, chairman, Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust), said: “The boulevard ties the site together, and is positioned on the former home of the Saint Mary’s Hospital tower block, demolished and relocated earlier this year. The whole site has been delivered ahead of schedule and within budget, a testament to the effort of all involved.”
