Steam system training to improve carbon footprints

Bookings are now being taken for the latest Spirax Sarco training courses in November this year on Steam Boiler Plant Controls and Systems; Steam Plant Maintenance: City and Guilds Module 13; and the Boiler Operative Accreditation Scheme (BOAS).

The next nationally accredited BOAS course runs from the 9-12 November, focusing on safety and energy efficiency in the boiler house. Spirax Sarco says: “It is a must for all industrial boiler operators and boiler plant managers, providing training to the BOAS syllabus, with a written examination. Candidates are also interviewed by a Gastec assessor during the course.”

The Steam Boiler Plant Controls and Systems module is designed to “give applicants an understanding of the wet-side of the boiler”, examining such topics as feedwater treatment and modern boiler control technologies, while also providing guidance on achieving high levels of efficiency and safety with smooth control.

Spirax Sarco is accredited by the City & Guilds of London Institute as the sole approved test centre for Module 13 - Steam Plant Maintenance. The course “demonstrates the fundamentals of steam systems and basic boiler house maintenance, including steam traps, pressure reducing valves, condensate pumps, and other ancillary equipment”.
“Investing in training to stay abreast of the latest techniques and requirements is one of the most cost-effective ways to improve the energy efficiency of your steam system,” adds Spirax Sarco. “Certified training for boiler operators can reap great rewards in terms of reducing carbon emissions, ensuring a reliable steam supply, and improving health and safety in the work place.”

Spirax Sarco claims to have “an international reputation for training”, and provides a full training schedule that covers all aspects of the design, operation, and maintenance of steam systems. Its Cheltenham training centre has three fully equipped and air-conditioned lecture rooms, a practical demonstration area, and its own steam boiler plant and steam system.
