Clinical haematology patients at Southampton General Hospital will receive high quality air thanks to a plant room engineered by consultancy Henderson Green. The hospital’s new Clinical Haematology Impatient extension has a dedicated space on the floor below which houses the clean air plant.
Henderson Green provided the 3D engineering designs for the plant room, which allow for continuous use of the service even in the event of a breakdown, or during maintenance The company explains: “The new extension provides the best environment for nine patients requiring complete isolation and cleanroom standards in every room. All air is HEPA filtered before delivery to the bedrooms. “Energy consumption has been optimised via inverter-driven fans, and a high proportion of air circulation. Other energyefficient elements include daylight-linked high efficiency lighting, occupancy detection, scroll compressors, and trace-heated domestic hot water.” The Clinical Haematology Unit, in which patients can control their own room environment, is the first of a twophase scheme. The second stage will provide a new day case facility.
