Modern buildings are designed to be airtight, and can utilise a system of ducted warm air to maintain comfortable occupancy temperatures. However Armacell says uninsulated ductwork suffers “inevitable temperature losses, which represent over 50% of system energy requirements”.
To help eliminate these, it suggests its purpose-engineered ductwork insulation. It says: “Distribution and continuous re-circulation of ducted filtered air is subject to gradual accumulation of general pollutants, which can lead to breathing difficulties and ill health. Typical contaminants can include natural gases like C02, harmful VOCs, industrial fibres, acidic particles, general dust, mould spores, and bacteria – all contributors to ‘sick building syndrome’.” Armaflex duct system products are purpose-designed to provide an easy-toclean, efficient insulation with zero ozone depletion and global warming potential ratings. Free from dust and fibres, formaldehyde, and “other dangerous gases”, they feature a closed-cell structure with in-built water vapour barrier to eliminate fibre migration and moisture “wicking”. Incorporation of Microban antimicrobial protection enhances inherent resistance against mould growth.
