Facilities strengthen national care framework

Construction company Bluestone is continuing to build its reputation as a leading provider of healthcare buildings by securing a framework to deliver three state-of-the-art health and social care centres in Doncaster. The new facilities, worth around £9 million, will be developed as part of a national framework to improve community healthcare across the UK following the launch of the NHS Local Improvement Finance Trust (LIFT) initiative.

Bluestone will act as the design and framework partner to Doncaster Community Solutions (LIFTCo) Ltd (DCS) – the Public Private Partnership responsible for the scheme, by delivering three new centres in the Doncaster area by the end of December 2006. The new centres will enhance the quality of community health and social care services by accommodating a range of facilities under one roof.

The centre in Thorne is the largest development within the programme, accommodating extensive facilities including two doctors’ surgeries, a social care unit, a dental surgery and a library, as well as treatment rooms and a minor surgery suite. Two smaller schemes at Denaby and Sandringham Road will provide a doctor’s surgery, dentist and additional facilities (including a library at Denaby).

Bluestone will ensure that each building blends in with its surroundings by using traditional construction methods and materials to enhance the appearance incorporating dark slate coloured roofing to complement the style of local buildings.
