Healthcare construction compliance simplified

A new integrated solution to Part E of the Building Regulations, from Timloc Building Products combines acoustic insulation and a pre-formed adjustable cavity tray to reduce flanking noise transmission in hospitals and care home buildings, while saving installation time on-site.

Timloc “Acoustray” combines in a single product the separate components of insulation, fire stop, cavity tray and wall weeps, as shown in the Robust Details of Part E, to create an effective acoustic cavity stop and fire barrier that is easy to install.

Existing methods of creating a cavity stop involve the securing of acoustic insulation adjacent to the floor slab, which then bridges the cavity in a localised area and requires the installation of a cavity tray to ensure water cannot seep to the inner wall. Also, thermal insulation is compromised during this process, which creates cold bridging points.

As Acoustray builds only into external masonry, no secondary fixing is required, saving time and overcoming potential problems associated with traditional methods using separate components. Also, Acoustray’s design ensures there is no break in insulation or cold bridging and eliminates the need for external weep holes that would risk unsightly staining at these points on the building exterior. The Acoustray also operates fully as an effective fire barrier, having achieved 90 minute integrity and insulation tests to BS 476: Part 20; 1987.
