Ecovert FM has completed the new garden room in a ground-level courtyard of Barnet Hospital. Constructed by sister company Icel Group, it offers a healing environment for families of patients at the end of life.
The project included excavating tonnes of earth and moving materials around while the hospital remained fully functional. The garden room is constructed of sustainably sourced wood and features high levels of insulation, including an insulated concrete floor slab which has achieved a U-value for the building of 0.25W/M2K. Four 230 mm diameter sunpipes provide sufficient lighting during normal daylight hours at no extra cost, while high efficiency LED lighting is used at night. The final roof finish is a sedum evergreen that, once fully established, will require only minimal maintenance. Additional planting was undertaken by volunteers, and will be maintained by them, with assistance from Ecovert FM.
