Brandon Medical’s Optica 388 illuminated magnifier has a central magnifier surrounded by high intense lighting to maximise vision for the user.
Reportedly especially suitable for those with dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD), a disease associated with ageing that gradually destroys sharp, central vision, the medical lamp is designed both for home use and for medical examinations. Brandon says that while traditional, hand-held magnifiers “necessitate the practical loss of one hand”, and are “often too small, making reading and writing difficult”, Optica 388’s range of mountings enable it to be mounted on a rail, wall, desk, or mobile trolley. Optica 388 uses a cool light which can be used for extensive lengths of time without increasing the temperature within the illuminated area. Conventional desk lights heat the area directly underneath, which Brandon says can be uncomfortable for users.
