Greg Markham FIHEEM, chair of IHEEM’s Membership Committee, a Chartered Engineer, and technical services director at G4S Integrated Services, will give a chief engineer’s view of the key risks related to hard facilities management services provision, while a Health and Safety Laboratory speaker will cover the legislative environment, at two IHEEM FM seminars being held In London and Leeds during April.
Taking place at the Institute of Materials, Mineral and Mining in London on 6 April, and at Leeds’s Thackray Museum on 12 April, the “Facilities management – maintaining compliance: what every premises manager needs to know” seminars will also highlight training’s importance in ensuring competence and compliance, and examine environmental legalisation, including the F-Gas Regulations, and the Carbon Reduction Commitment. Greg Markham said: “When applied to healthcare premises, health, safety, and environmental legislation present many and varied challenges for premises or facilities managers. Compliance is an absolute requirement, but how can you attempt to comply if you are not aware of what you need to do to provide a safe, compliant facility? With the advent of the Corporate Manslaughter Act, there has never been a more critical time to be aware of your personal liabilities. “Whether your preferred option is to self-deliver, sub-contract, or a mixture of both, you cannot pass down your duty under law. How do you know the contractor you have engaged is competent? How can you prove that your staff are trained, competent, and familiar with the equipment and facilities they are maintaining? This seminar will provide answers to these key issues, and more, utilising the skills, knowledge, and experience, of a range of industry speakers. “Practical examples, tools, and information, will be provided to help those responsible for providing and managing healthcare premises to understand and discharge their duties under law.” For more details contact Jeff Pickering.
