Kier Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of construction, development and service group Kier Group plc, has acquired the entire issued share capital of Beco, a Totnes, Devon-headquartered designer and installer of renewable energy sources, from directors Nigel Brunton-Reed and Hilary White, and Finance South West Growth Fund Limited Partnership.
Employing around 25 people, Beco was established in 1980. Its Beco Solar division has designed, supplied and installed photovoltaic solar energy systems since 1989. It was reportedly one of the first organisations to become a government-approved installer of PV cells. Its recent healthcare projects include work at a healthcare centre and a dental practice at Ivy Bridge near Plymouth, and at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh, where some 90 PV panels have been installed to give a 19 kWp system, generating some 17,000 kW of electricity per annum. The company will become the delivery arm of Kier Group’s newly-formed business unit, Kier Energy Innovations (KEI). Beco MD Nigel Brunton-Reed joins the board of KEI.
