Interface allows BEMS link with ‘third party’ systems

Trend building energy management systems (BEMS) can now be easily integrated with a wide range of thirdparty devices and systems used for controlling and monitoring building services with the launch of the Trend Open Network Node (TONN).

The interface unit enables the company’s BEMS to interoperate with single or multiple systems from other manufacturers. Every TONN provides unrestricted access to a Trend system driver, and to the drivers for most of the open protocols used in building automation, including BACnet, LON, KNX, Modbus, M-Bus, SNMP, and oBIX. For an additional cost, drivers can also be supplied for any of eleven proprietary protocols. A single unit can route data between a Trend BEMS and several other devices or systems. For instance, it could simultaneously connect to M-Bus meters, Modbus packaged air conditioning plant, and LON lighting controls. Equipped with an Ethernet connector, a pair of serial ports (RS232 and RS485), and two slots for optional cards for LON or additional serial ports, it is compatible with BEMS based on Trend IQ3 or IQ2 series controllers.
