Simultaneous heating and cooling

Clivet UK’s Clivet SPINsaver, “a four-pipe water source high efficiency packaged unit” for centralised systems that produces hot and cold fluid simultaneously in every load condition, can produce heating and cooling energy simultaneously and independently “to match the varying conditions and requirements of the building’s zones”.

The source is thus activated only when excess energy is to be exchanged. “Total savings of primary energy can be as high as 50%”. The company said: “In traditional centralised systems, heating and cooling energy is produced for the whole building, and distributed according to need. However, in many systems where water chillers operate independently of boilers, we find excess energy being rejected. “In the event of a simultaneous request for heating elsewhere in the building, this energy could be recovered and used immediately, greatly reducing boiler energy use. Using the Clivet SPINsaver to produce heating and cooling energy enables recovery of the otherwise dissipated energy, increasing efficiency, and reducing power consumption.”
