Manufacturer of electronically switchable glass, SmartGlass International, has launched a new website dedicated to the medical sector (www.smartglassmedical.com).
The site provides detailed information on the company’s “intelligent” products, LC SmartGlass and SPD SmartGlass, both said to be ideal for healthcare environments. LC SmartGlass has the ability to change from translucent to opaque at the switch of a button via a minute electrical current. It brings “instant privacy” to environments such as theatres, X-ray suites, and wards. Various configurations can be supplied, including colour tinted, fire-rated, X-ray proof, double or triple-glazed, curved, and shaped. Used as wall panels, internal doors and windows, X-ray screens, room dividers, or mobile isolation screens, LC SmartGlass offers patient dignity and privacy while allowing hospital staff to safely and efficiently review patient well-being. It also has an “easily cleaned”, wipeable surface. SPD SmartGlass differs in that it can be manually or automatically “tuned” to control the amount of light and glare passing through a window. The company said: “While glass is a favoured product for use in building façades, glare, solar heat gain, and UV exposure are problematic, and can often make glass’s use impractical, resulting in the need to invest in expensive solar shading. The ability to instantly switch the glass to reflect the needs of the patient is a valuable, unique quality of SPD SmartGlass.”
