Transport issues addressed

With proposals to change the delivery of health services across County Durham and Tees Valley and parts of North Yorkshire likely to impact on how some hospital patients, visitors and staff travel, the NHS Joint PCT Committee has appointed JMP Consulting to provide transport advice.

Peter Hardy, divisional director with JMP who is personally carrying out the work, said: “In the past there have been many changes in healthcare provision across the country that have ignored the transport and access implications. It is refreshing to see on Teesside that the health sector is taking these issues seriously and addressing them as an integral part of the overall review of hospital healthcare services.”

This work links well to the on-going joint working promoted by the Tees Transport and Health Partnership, formed three years ago, which includes representatives from all local NHS Trusts, two ambulance services, local authorities and patient bodies.

As part of this work, Peter Hardy will be ensuring that issues identified are included in the Local Transport Plans and Accessibility Strategies currently being prepared by the Tees Valley Local Authorities.
