Simmtronic has provided an intelligent digital lighting control system for the new hospital at Romford. This £260 million PFI hospital is being built by Bovis Lend Lease for Barking, Havering & Redbridge Hospitals NHS Trust and the use of this technology represents a new approach to lighting control within hospitals, providing an opportunity for significant energy saving.
As part of the lighting control scheme, dimming functions have been widely employed throughout the hospital – in both wards and consulting rooms. Simmtronic has also designed and supplied a special lighting control interface with the nurse call system to provide patients with a personal bedhead control featuring on/off and dimming functions. The extensive use of presence detection in non-clinical areas will deliver energy savings by ensuring lights are automatically switched off when these locations are unoccupied.
