BMI’s The Ridgeway Hospital in Swindon has unveiled plans for a £3.2 m development programme that will provide a third new operating theatre, extension to the main hospital reception, a refurbishment of the existing pharmacy, and new consultation rooms.
The project, expected to create up to 30 new jobs, is due for completion in June. The new laminar theatre will cater for procedures including orthopaedic surgery, endoscopic, and laparoscopic procedures. To ensure continuity of service, the hospital has opted for a modular off-site building solution. The remaining work, which includes an enlargement and refurbishment of the patient reception facilities, pharmacy, and consulting suites, will be undertaken on site “with minimal disruption”. The hospital’s two existing theatres will continue treating patients as normal during the upgrade.
